Visiting New Orleans for the IPI Annual Conference? Want to give back to the community while you are here?  We have a “voluntourism” event for you! The mission of HandsOn New Orleans is to engage, empower, and transform our community through volunteer service. The organization supports the missions of 70+ community partners (schools, park and recreation centers, neighborhood associations, and nonprofits) by identifying pressing needs, creating high-impact projects, and recruiting and managing volunteer teams to make meaningful improvements. The organization’s work improves access to resources, supports educational equity, promotes healthy eating and active lifestyles, and sustains the natural and built environment.  To date, HandsOn has recruited 42,000 volunteers, serving 160,000 service hours, with an estimated economic impact of $16M in community savings through volunteer time and materials.

This day’s efforts will support the Einstein Charter of Sherwood Forest.  Einstein Charter Schools operate a group of consistently high-performing, open admissions, community schools vested in New Orleans East.  Our students thrive in our safe, respectful and nurturing learning environment.  It is our mission that we meet the needs of all of our students, academic and/or otherwise. Our professional educators provide rigorous, state aligned lessons through data driven and individualized instruction.  Einstein’s respectful school culture is due to the implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.) This combination prepares our students for significant academic growth by providing them the self-confidence and self-respect necessary to experience scholastic success daily. Einstein Charter Schools set high expectations and provide the necessary support for our students to meet these expectations.  Einstein’s unique diversity provides our students with a culturally vibrant school atmosphere where our students grow daily.

Network with fellow IPI members as you improve the grounds of the Einstein Charter of Sherwood Forest with HandsOn projects such as:
  • Landscape the newly renovated playground area
  • Stain playground equipment as well as picnic tables and shade structures
  • Build shade structures or picnic tables for the children or teachers to use
Leave your mark in New Orleans East, knowing your contribution—whether monetary or sweat-equity—will make a lot of children happier.?

Space is limited.  Reserve your spot before April 24.
