Learning Labs

Learning Labs are designed to provide participants a better understanding of what technology is available and how to best implement in your operation and where the future of technology is heading. Persons conducting Learning Labs must be able to interactively engage the learners to promote conceptual understanding and hands-on functions to yield immediate feedback through discussion and activities. Attendees at the Learning Labs should have fun, engaging and highly effective presentations that have a focus on results.

Session Title: Converting Drivers to Clients with Branded Mobile Apps Location
Greg Mason and Tomer Blustein, TIBA Parking System

Parking operators and owners are looking for a suite of products that enables them to create a cloud-based management system for parking garages, allowing physical access to parking garages on any PARCS system, and software development kits to facilitate reservations, navigation, validations and frictionless paying.

We will discuss different components that create a parking environment including cloud-based management systems, Bluetooth, and mobile applications.
  • Cloud-based management systems should allow for spot availability and reservations, payment and billing, complete CRM for campaigns, loyalty programs and an open SDK for 3rd party solutions. We will discuss how the management system provides substantial benefits to operators including spill over from one garage to another, viewing garage and driver history to improve service, and analysis of parking habits.
  • Bluetooth enabled IoT devices for authentication of drivers allows operators to open/close barriers, start/stop parking time and finalize payment. Operators expect a quick non-disruptive installation, no change to current setting, seamless identification and authentication of drivers and full integration with parking aggregators, all for a very lucrative cost.
  • Mobile applications and accompanying SDKs allow operators to “white-label” their own applications for their drivers’ to register with a proper payment. Drivers should be able to find the closest spot to their destination, view price, and pay for exact time parked, as well as participate in Smart Loyalty® parking programs. These tools allow operators to increase traffic, redirect drivers to next closest garages in the event the destination garage fills, and escort drivers before they arrive at the garage.

Session Title: How Smart Parking Can Support the Smart City Vision        Location
Mike Bourre, gtechna; John Fournier, Public Parking Authority of Pittsburgh

The Smart city has been defined in many ways but ultimately, the goal should be to deliver the best possible services to citizens. And one way this can be achieved is by improving operations through technology. This session will demonstrate how data can be used within the framework of parking management and enforcement systems to provide more streamlined services and improve operations.

This session will feature accounts from the Pittsburgh Parking Authority around how the implementation of some these technologies have created real-world benefits in tackling efficiency challenges. Whether plate based Artificial Intelligence and real-time communication to eliminate errors, real-time data sharing to enforce scofflaws and suspect vehicles, operational improvements on how tickets are issued using LPR to automate citation mailings, attendees will walk away with concrete scenarios on how smart parking can support the smart city vision.
